Athens

| Although I was born in Athens, Georgia, I now live in New York City…a Southern boy living in the land of the Yankees. It’s an interesting and sometimes fractious personal dichotomy. Every day on my work commute, I pass this sign, which momentarily jars me back to quick memories of my childhood home. The fact that it’s a liquor store somehow makes it even more odd, since no one in my family ever drank, and alcohol didn’t really affect my life until adulthood. We are a product of our pasts, no matter what our present would like us to believe.
